40% say Reagan greatest of last ten presidents but Democrats get most votes

By

For Presidents Day we asked the YouGov First Verdict panel to say which of the last ten US presidents was the greatest. Ronald Reagan was a clear winner with 40% voting for him. His victory might partly reflect the likelihood that Republican-minded panellists all lined up behind him. Other Republican presidents in the list scored very poorly: the two Bush presidents receiving just 1% each and Ford and Nixon receiving almost no votes at all.

Three Democratic presidents, in contrast, all scored in double figures. Barack Obama topped the Democratic primary with 19%, John F Kennedy received 16% and Bill Clinton 16%.
