CapX Live: Reviving Economic Thinking on the Right

By

As the new government gets to grips with the British economy, what principles should animate its thinking in this new, post-Brexit era?

The latest CapX Live event looks to answer this question by bringing together three of the Right’s leading lights – Stian Westlake, Sam Bowman and Neil O’Brien MP – to debate how to revive economic thinking.

Stian Westlake is an award-winning writer and policy adviser, specialising in economics, technology and public policy. He served as adviser to three science and universities ministers from 2017 to 2019. Before that, he was an Executive Director at Nesta, the UK’s national foundation for innovation. Stian is co-author of Capitalism Without Capital (Princeton), and is currently writing a new book, Tomorrow, Interrupted: barriers to growth in the new economy.

Sam Bowman is Principal at Fingleton, where he works on competition in digital markets, and is a former Executive Director of the Adam Smith Institute. He is, along with Stian, the co-author of ‘Reviving Economic Thinking on the Right’.

Neil O’Brien is Conservative MP for Harborough, Oadby & Wigston. He is a former adviser at Number 10 Downing St, and a former director of the thinktanks Open Europe and Policy Exchange. He is also one of the co-founders of the thinktank Onward.
